There are occasions when we want to make a computer on a home network or LAN accessible externally on the Internet. For example, remotely connecting to a LAN computer using SSH or remotely accessing a web site residing on a LAN computer.
Assigning a Locally Networked Computer a Static IP Address in Mac OS X
Each computer connected to a local network is assigned a dynamic IP address. On occasion it’s useful, if not essential, to assign a static IP address instead. As an example, port forwarding requires the destination computer on a local network to have a static IP address.
Using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1, I’ll describe two ways of assigning a static IP address to a computer on a local network.
Re-opening Full-Screen Applications in OS X Lion. Hit or Miss?
A much touted feature of Mac OS X Lion is the ability to use applications in full-screen mode. It’s easy enough to make an already open application full-screen, but I’ve had limited success re-opening applications full-screen using the initial public 10.7.0 release of Lion.
WordPress.com Stats and Jetpack Plugins and WordPress Page Navigation
I never did get to the bottom of the issue I was having with the Jetpack plugin and page navigation in WordPress. So, it seemed I would either have to do without site statistics provided by the Jetpack plugin or this site would have to forego page navigation.
I’ve been using site statistics provided WordPress.com for some time. The popular posts widgets in the sidebar and on single post pages rely on these statistics to display this site’s most viewed posts and pages.
WordPress Jetpack Plugin and Broken Page Navigation
I’ve currently disabled page navigation on this site as it appears to be broken. While I can’t be 100% certain, the culprit appears to be the Jetpack plugin I use that incorporates WordPress.com Stats.
Fix Add-on Incompatibility in Firefox 5
Of all the Firefox add-ons I have installed the one I’ve come to rely on is the official Delicious Bookmarks add-on.
This and many other add-ons have been incompatible with Firefox since the release of Firefox 4 back in March. One of the work-a-rounds was to disable add-on compatibility checking in Firefox.

Entering File and Folder Paths on the macOS Command Line
The one thing that trips me up time and again when using the command line in Terminal or other terminal emulator is being able to navigate the directory structure and target files or folders. After struggling getting the correct file or folder path I’m usually greeted with No such file or directory reminding me that the command line doesn’t like spaces in file and folder paths.
With that in mind here are a few ways to enter file and folder paths on the command line.
Problems Sending Mail Using iPhone
Recently I’d been having problems sending mail from one of the mail accounts on my iPhone. No error message. The mail just wasn’t being sent. Re-booting the iPhone appeared to sometimes fix the problem, but I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what the issue was until I noticed when it was happening.
